Tooth Extractions

Helping our patients preserve and maintain their natural teeth for as long as possible is always our goal here at Citrus Grove Dentistry. However, some situations, where a tooth is severely decayed or compromised, may require a tooth extraction to protect the health of surrounding teeth, and Dr. Erickson can help with these cases.

Why Do I Need a Tooth Extracted?

There are certain times in which your Citrus Heights dentist will recommend a tooth extraction to protect your oral health as well as the integrity of neighboring teeth. These cases are:

  • Most wisdom teeth
  • A tooth that is cracked or fractured beyond what a crown can repair
  • A tooth that we can't save from advanced periodontal disease (periodontitis)
  • A tooth that is severely decayed and can’t be preserved with root canal therapy
  • For orthodontic treatment, to eliminate crowding

Whatever the case may be for you, you must know that we perform all tooth extraction procedures in Citrus Heights, CA with your comfort in mind.

Do My Wisdom Teeth Really Need to Be Extracted?

Wisdom teeth are the last set of molars to arrive back in your mouth behind your first and second molars.

They are often hard to reach to brush and floss, and sometimes there’s not enough room for them, which are two of the reasons we may recommend extracting them. When you can’t properly brush and floss your wisdom teeth, you may be at risk for developing tooth decay or gum disease.

In other cases, wisdom teeth come in at odd angles that may crowd or negatively impact neighboring teeth. And for some people, their wisdom teeth don’t come in at all, but rather remain impacted, or stuck below the gum line, which can result in an infection.
